Doula Services Covered by Insurance & Medi-Cal

Professional doula support may be covered by your health insurance.

I work with Medi-Cal and commercial insurance plans, helping families access professional support during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

Depending on your individual plan and benefits, covered doula services may include childbirth preparation, prenatal support, labor and birth support, postpartum care and breastfeeding support.

If you are not sure whether your insurance covers doula services, contact me with your insurance information. We can determine what benefits may be available through your plan.

Doula Services Through Medi-Cal

If you have Medi-Cal, doula services may be available as part of your healthcare benefits.

My support can begin during pregnancy with prenatal visits and childbirth preparation and continue through labor, birth and the postpartum period.

The exact number and type of covered services may depend on your individual health plan, eligibility and authorization requirements.

Before we begin, we can review your insurance information and determine what services are available to you.

Commercial Insurance Coverage for Doula Services

I also work with commercial health insurance plans.

Doula benefits vary between insurance companies and individual policies. Some plans may cover birth doula services, prenatal support, childbirth education, postpartum care or other services.

Because every policy is different, coverage should be verified individually.

Contact me with the name of your insurance company and your plan information, and we can determine the next steps.

Insurance Plans I Work With

I work with Medi-Cal and commercial insurance plans, including:

Anthem Blue Cross
Kaiser Permanente
Partnership HealthPlan
Health Net
and other insurance plans

Insurance networks, benefits and coverage can change, so eligibility and benefits should always be verified for your individual plan.

Childbirth Preparation During Pregnancy

My doula care begins before labor.

Depending on your insurance benefits, prenatal support may include comprehensive childbirth preparation.

I have professionally prepared families for birth for 6 years and developed my own childbirth education program.

We discuss the physiology and stages of labor, comfort techniques, movement and positioning, pain management, common hospital procedures and interventions, induction, communication with your healthcare team and informed decision-making.

My goal is for you to understand what is happening during birth and feel prepared to participate in decisions about your own care.

Labor and Birth Doula Support

During labor, I provide continuous physical and emotional support based on your individual needs.

This may include breathing techniques, movement, positioning, massage, comfort measures, emotional reassurance and support for your partner.

I have 8 years of experience and have attended more than 400 births.

I support different birth experiences, including physiological birth, induction, birth with epidural anesthesia and cesarean birth.

My role is not to decide how you should give birth. My role is to support you and the informed decisions you make.

Postpartum and Breastfeeding Support

Depending on your insurance benefits, support may continue after your baby is born.

Postpartum doula care can include education about recovery, newborn care, practical support with your baby and breastfeeding education and support.

As a postpartum doula and breastfeeding counselor, I can continue supporting you as you recover and adjust to life with your newborn.

Check Your Doula Insurance Benefits
